A Summer of Exploration: Personal Growth Across Continents

By Pedro Ferreira

This summer, I set out on a journey that would take me across four continents, offering more than just a change of scenery—it was a voyage of personal growth and deepening connections.

Manhattan, NY: A Starting Point Close to Home

My journey began in the heart of New York City, where I worked and saved up for this grand adventure. With my family nearby, Manhattan was more than just a starting point; it was a grounding experience, reminding me of the value of hard work and the importance of family. The city’s relentless energy set the tone for what was to come.

Los Angeles, CA: A New Perspective on the West Coast

Next, I visited close friends in Los Angeles and was struck by how much this city resonated with me. Being my first time in California, I had high expectations. From late-night drives through the hills to savoring the best Korean food I’ve ever had, I found myself falling in love with California, perhaps even more so than New York. The hikes and breathtaking landscapes only deepened my appreciation for the West Coast, making me wonder if this might be where I belong.

Bangkok, Thailand: A Cultural Transformation

Bangkok was a revelation. I arrived as someone indifferent to Thai food and left as a true enthusiast. The warmth of the people and the richness of the culture were astonishing. Exploring the mountains of Khao Kho and the vibrant city life of Bangkok, I found myself embracing a new cultural identity. The friends I made and the experiences I had here changed me in ways I hadn’t anticipated, turning me into a lifelong lover of all things Thai.

Tokyo, Japan: An Unexpected Romance

Tokyo was never part of the plan, but when a layover turned into a three-day stay, I seized the opportunity. What began as a random detour quickly became one of the highlights of my trip. I fell head over heels for Japan’s unique culture, thanks to the locals who showed me around and introduced me to new foods and experiences. Tokyo’s blend of ancient tradition and cutting-edge modernity left me longing for more, and I know I’ll be back.

Rio de Janeiro, Lencois Maranhenses and Divinópolis: A Return to Roots

Returning to Rio after ten years felt like coming home. I realized just how much I had missed Brazil and its vibrant culture. My time in Rio reignited a desire to one day live here. Then later traveling up north, I was shocked by stunning landscapes of Lençóis Maranhenses, with its clear waters and otherworldly sand dunes, left an indelible mark on me. Finally, spending time in my small hometown of Divinópolis, surrounded by family and friends, reminded me of the simple joys of life—late-night talks, great food, and deep connections.

Rome, Italy: The Next Chapter

Finally, I arrived in Rome, where the other half of my heritage lies and where I’ll be continuing my studies at Luiss Guido Carli University. Rome feels like the perfect culmination of this journey—a place where my past, present, and future converge. As I prepare for this next chapter of life, I carry with me the lessons learned and the memories made during this incredible summer.

Reflections and Looking Forward

This summer wasn’t just about visiting new places; it was about reconnecting with my roots, forming new friendships, and gaining a deeper understanding of the world and myself. Each city I visited offered something unique, and each experience added a new layer to my perspective on life and business.

As I settle into Rome, I am more motivated than ever to apply these insights to my studies and future endeavors. The journey has shown me the value of embracing diversity, the importance of cultural understanding, and the power of human connections in building a truly globalperspective.

Here’s to the next adventure—wherever it may lead.
